9. Bring Italian closer to young Americans through social networks: the website www.usspeaksitalian.org, is a forum for discussion created by the Osservatorio sulla Lingua Italiana for students, families, and teachers and has been active for several months now. It promotes the diffusion of the teaching of Italian language and culture in the United States, as well as the promotion of student participation in the Advanced Placement Program in Italian. The link to this site is on the WisItalia Links page at http://www.wisitalia.org/pages/links.html.
10. You may also be interested in another website: Italy for Kids http://sedi2.esteri.it/sitiweb/AmbWashington/italy4kids/#.Trs-X3FjCj0. This is a gateway to Italy for kids K-12 by the Embassy of Italy in Washington, DC. Information is grouped into three age categories: preK-8 years, 9-13 years and 14+ years. Children and young people can learn more about Italy, its language and its culture.
11. Funds from the Italian Government Support Italian Education in Wisconsin. The Italian Government, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Directorate General for Italians Abroad and Migration Policies-Office II, in conjunction with the Consulate General of Italy of Chicago, has given WisItalia their annual grant of $9,258 for scholastic support for the Italian language programs in Wisconsin. These grant funds go directly to certain Wisconsin schools/programs that teach the Italian language, to support their language programs. These funds are used to purchase teaching materials, to augment teacher or teaching assistant pay, or for any legitimate and academically sound activity that furthers the study of Italian language and culture. WisItalia greatly appreciates this support from the Italian government, and the support from Roberto Pennazzato, Dirigente/Director, Education Office, Consulate General of Italy of Chicago.
12. Consider Making a Tax-Deductible Donation to WisItalia. If you think teaching Italian to Wisconsin students is a worthwhile endeavor, then consider making a year-end tax-deductible donation to WisItalia. We depend on funds from the Italian government and private donations to support the Italian language programs and teachers in Wisconsin. Your support is needed during these tough economic times, as many school budgets have been cut and providing Italian teaching materials can be expensive. There are two easy ways to make your donation: by check or by PayPal (you don't need a PayPal account, just a credit card). Details can be found at http://www.wisitalia.org/pages/donate.html.
13. The next WisItalia meeting will be held on November 19, 2011, from 9:30 am to 12:00 noon at Trinity Academy, W 225 N3131, Duplainville Rd, Pewaukee, WI 53072. Get involved and join one of its committees http://www.wisitalia.org/pages/governance.html#committees. Summary notes from the September 24, 2011 meeting are on the Meetings page http://www.wisitalia.org/pages/meetingdates.html#summaries.
