Grants for Italian Language Program Expenses

Grant amounts for the 2012-13 school year will be $1,000 per school year for K-12 schools offering Italian during the school day, and $500 per school year for after school, evening and weekend Italian language programs. New start-up Italian language program amounts will vary depending on the program offered and the number of students expected to be enrolled.

Who can apply?

Teachers and educators can apply, on behalf of their Italian language programs, for funds from WisItalia to supplement their Italian language school classes in Wisconsin (elementary to high school level) and/or their Italian language after-school/evening/weekend programs for children and adults taught in Wisconsin.

What can the funds be used for?

Grant funds may be used to purchase teaching materials, to augment teacher or teaching assistant pay, or for any legitimate and academically sound activity that furthers the study of Italian language and culture.

What is the application process?

Submit the following application form, depending on the type of Italian language program:

What is the approval process?

The WisItalia Education Committee will first review the grant application for completeness and accuracy. Once they have concluded their review, they will forward the grant application (including any revisions) to the WisItalia Board, along with their recommendation for approval or not. The WisItalia Board will review and vote on each application on a case-by-case basis, taking in to consideration the recommendation from the Education Committee. Granting and payment of funds will be done at the discretion of the WisItalia Board.

What is the grant summary report?

By June 30 of each year, all approved applicants are REQUIRED to submit a grant summary report of how they spent their grant funds. This information is necessary to document grant expenditures. WisItalia submits this information to the Italian government, a major source of the grant funds to WisItalia.

NOTE: Failure to submit the Summary Report may jeopardize the Italian program's chances to receive future grant funds from WisItalia.

What is the grant reimbursement summary report or follow-up workshop?

If you are approved to receive grant reimbursement funds from WisItalia, within 30 calendar days of award notification, grant recipients will be required to submit to the WisItalia Education Chair (Sandra Pucci pucci@uwm.edu) a brief summary report indicating what was learned at the seminar/workshop/conference, how the information is going to be used, who will benefit from the experience, etc. The report format will be left up to the grant recipient to determine.

In lieu of a grant reimbursement summary report, the grant recipient may instead provide a follow-up workshop, within 3 months of attending the seminar/workshop/conference, to other Wisconsin Italian educators using the information learned at the seminar/workshop/conference, demonstrating how the information can be used, how students can benefit from the information, etc. The syllabus of the workshop shall be submitted to the WisItalia Education Chair, (Sandra Pucci pucci@uwm.edu) prior to the date of the workshop.

The summary information from the seminar/workshop/conference is necessary to document grant expenditures. WisItalia submits this information to the Italian government, a major source of the grant funds to WisItalia.

NOTE: Failure to submit the grant reimbursement summary report or provide the workshop to other Italian educators may jeopardize the recipient's chances to receive future grant funds from WisItalia.
