Victory Elementary School needs donors to help with classroom materials and supplies.
Classroom Donation. Cathy Laurenzi is an Italian teacher at Victory Elementary in Milwaukee. Consider making a donation to help her purchase bins for their Italian and English books, a comfy reading area, and English Language activity centers for her 2nd graders. Victory School is now able to offer Italian to about 210 students as they implement their school-wide Partial Immersion Program. In the past, only about 80 90 students were able to learn the language in the full immersion classrooms. Currently, 210 students in grades K4 – 4th grade receive Italian on a daily basis as compared to 80 to 90 in 2010-11.
About 105 of the 210 students are still housed with Italian-speaking teachers who continue to nurture their language and academic skills in the target language. Italian is still used for instruction in content areas. The remaining 105 students are enrolled in a FLES Italian program; learning Italian as a foreign language. These students had no previous experience with the language. They receive Italian instruction for one hour a day, 5 days a week.

Course Offered: This course is for members only. The Italian Special Interest group meets every Tuesday 12:00-1:30 pm to learn the language and culture of Italy. The group uses a workbook and other lessons, converses in Italian and listens to the language. All members know some Italian and some know it very well.
