Campania

Anacapri, ItalyAnacapri and Capri - an Italian island off the Sorrentine Peninsula on the south side of the Gulf of Naples, in the Campania region. Anacapri is a small community on the island of Capri, located high on the hills to the west.

Girl during Carnivale, Napoli, ItalyNapoli (Naples) Area - the capital of the region of Campania and of the province of Naples. The city is known for its rich history, art, culture and gastronomy, playing an important role throughout much of its existence; it is over 2,800 years old. Nearby, Ercolano, the lesser-known-but-just-as-important excavated ancient city from the Mt. Vesuvio eruption in 79 AD. In fact, Ercolano is better preserved than Pompeii, thanks to the volcanic mud that covered it instead of the volcanic ash that buried Pompeii.

Sicilia (Sicily)

Carretto, Sicilian cartSicilia (Sicily) - an autonomous region of Italy. Of all the regions of Italy, Sicily covers the largest land area and currently has just over five million inhabitants. It is also the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. These photos are from various towns in Sicily. The photo to the left is a carretto (cart), a common symbol of Sicily, introduced to the island by the ancient Greeks.
